Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 is officially on the way, and it could become one of the most significant releases in franchise history. Activision and Infinity Ward have confirmed that Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 will launch on October 23, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
The announcement is generating major attention across the gaming industry for two reasons. Not only does it introduce a brand-new chapter in one of gaming’s biggest franchises, but it also marks Call of Duty’s long-awaited return to Nintendo platforms after more than a decade.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 Returns to Nintendo
One of the biggest stories surrounding Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 is its arrival on Nintendo hardware.
The last Call of Duty game released on a Nintendo platform was Call of Duty: Ghosts on the Wii U in 2013. Since then, the franchise completely skipped the Nintendo Switch generation.
That changes this October.
Infinity Ward, alongside Digital Legends, is developing a native Nintendo Switch 2 version of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4. The game will support full cross-play and cross-progression, allowing Nintendo players to compete and progress alongside PlayStation, Xbox, and PC users.
The Switch 2 version will also introduce optional Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, giving players a new way to experience competitive first-person shooter gameplay on Nintendo hardware.
The launch fulfills Microsoft’s commitment to bring Call of Duty back to Nintendo following its acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 Campaign Details
The campaign in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 takes players into a global conflict triggered by a full-scale North Korean invasion that threatens international stability.
Players assume the role of Private Park, a South Korean soldier fighting on the front lines as war spreads across the Korean Peninsula. At the same time, Captain Price operates outside official military channels while pursuing a mission that could determine the outcome of the conflict.
The campaign spans multiple locations across the globe, including Korea, New York, Paris, and Mumbai. Players can expect large-scale battles, urban warfare, covert operations, high-speed pursuits, and signature cinematic moments that have defined the Modern Warfare series.
According to Activision, campaign, multiplayer, and DMZ modes will all be included at launch, with the studio positioning the title as a major technical leap forward for the franchise.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 Ends Last-Gen Support
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 is also making history as the first mainline Call of Duty title built exclusively for current-generation hardware.
The game will not be released on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.
That decision coincides with another major change. Activision has confirmed that Call of Duty: Warzone will officially end support for PS4 and Xbox One later this year.
Beginning June 4, 2026, Warzone will no longer be available for download on either platform. The in-game store will be removed on June 25, and support will ultimately end after Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 launches following the game’s October release.
Players who already have Warzone installed will still be able to access remaining Black Ops 7 seasonal content for a limited period, but the transition to current-generation platforms is now firmly underway.
