Dubai has a new Japanese restaurant, and it is already getting all the attention. TANSŌ opened on 7 May 2026 in Jumeirah 1, and this new Japanese restaurant in Dubai is not formatted like anything the city already has. It calls itself a “Neo-Tokyo dining gallery,” a description that nods to non-traditional methods and a modern take on dishes, with the dining gallery element referencing the artistic atmosphere the interiors and the food both aim to deliver. From the kitchen-first focus to the art-led space, this one is doing things on its own terms.
What Is TANSŌ?
The name comes from the Japanese word for “charcoal,” and the concept is organized around cooking with elemental precision over an open flame. TANSŌ is a chef-led dining gallery, a format that keeps the kitchen at the center of everything. No omakase-style ticketed experience, no izakaya setup. The kitchen is the point, and the room was designed to work in service of it.
The villa sits in a discreet spot on Jumeirah Road, a beige-and-stone exterior that offers a glimpse of the warm interior, washed in light. Inside, Samar Zakhem Design gave the space natural stones, textured charred elements, crafted woodwork, and sculptural lighting. The result is high-contrast and art-heavy without getting in the way of the food.
Seating options include the outdoor terrace facing Jumeirah Road, the main indoor area with signature red couches against the stone walls, a more private rooftop upstairs, and a private dining room that fits eight guests. Valet service is also available.
What to Eat at This New Japanese Restaurant in Dubai
The main menu at this new Japanese restaurant in Dubai is organized around shared plates, sashimi, and A5 wagyu with tableside finishing. The A5 Wagyu Striploin Ishiyaki is finished on hot stone at your table and served with ponzu and gochujang. There is also a chef’s table for 10 with live cooking as part of the experience.
Standout options include edamame three ways at Dh30 each, from sea salt to charred wagyu tallow. The fish and chips (Dh58) is potato pavé topped with seabass sashimi and truffle kosho. The Wagyu French toast (Dh92) layers toasted milk bread, wagyu striploin, and Oscietra caviar. The sunrise maki (Dh115) is an eight-piece pickled asparagus roll with marinated wagyu striploin and a sunny-side egg placed at the center of the plate.
The menu also carries Hamachi Apple, which is yellowtail with apple sashimi and jalapeño acid, and Marrow and Grain, made with miso marrow, pickled onion, potato bun, and nori dust.
For dessert, the “Palm” is TANSŌ’s take on sticky date pudding, made with banana and medjool dates in a miso-caramel sauce, served with ashta ice cream.
The Daichi Volume 01 Seasonal Menu
Launching alongside the main menu is Daichi Volume 01, TANSŌ’s first seasonal chapter, a six-dish series using locally sourced GCC ingredients prepared with Japanese technique. It runs until July, when a new chapter takes its place.

TANSŌ is entirely alcohol-free by design. The beverage programme was developed with the same level of thought as the food, with a focus on pairings that complement the menu rather than limiting the experience.
