Dubai Municipality officially opened Khor Al Mamzar Beach on May 5, 2026, marking the launch of Phase 1 of the Al Mamzar Beaches development project. The new waterfront destination spans 2.75 million square feet and is now open to residents, visitors, and tourists, delivering a full-scale public beach experience unlike anything Dubai has had at this location.
This is a big one.
What Khor Al Mamzar Beach Actually Offers
The amenities list is long, and it covers a lot of ground. The swimming shoreline has expanded by 128%, now stretching 3.6 kilometres. A 300-metre night beach operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, which means late-night swims are officially on the table at this location.
The destination also introduces the region’s first floating walkway, connecting the Al Mamzar Lagoon and Al Mamzar Corniche. It will eventually include a waterfront restaurant. For the active crowd, there are more than 5.5 kilometres of running, walking, and cycling tracks, plus an outdoor gym, a beach volleyball court, and padel courts.
Water sports available on site include jet skiing, kayaking, paddle boating, and flyboarding. Safety infrastructure has also been upgraded by 340%, with 12 lifeguard towers and 12 emergency call points now in operation. The beach is fully accessible for People of Determination, with swim chairs, wheelchair access, and specially trained lifeguards on duty.
The Investment and Visitor Numbers Behind the Project
Khor Al Mamzar Beach sits within a broader AED 3 billion ($816.8 million) public beach development program managed by Dubai Municipality. Once Phase 2 at Al Mamzar Corniche is complete, the combined destination is projected to welcome up to 7 million visitors annually.
The full Al Mamzar development is split into two zones. The current Phase 1, Al Mamzar Lagoon Beach, covers 2.75 million square feet. Phase 2, Al Mamzar Corniche, will cover 1.25 million square feet and will include the world’s first 24/7 women-only beach, enclosed for privacy, alongside sports facilities, art walkways, and seasonal event spaces.
The project is tied to the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033, and the Blue and Green Spaces Roadmap 2030.
What Officials Said at the Launch
The beach was inaugurated by Eng. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, at a ceremony attended by government officials, residents of Al Mamzar and Deira, media representatives, and influencers.
“Our objective is to create some of the world’s most advanced and attractive beachfront destinations, reinforcing Dubai’s appeal, sustainability, and quality of life while offering exceptional experiences for residents and visitors,” he said.
Badr Anwahi, CEO of the Public Facilities Agency at Dubai Municipality, called the opening a key milestone in delivering high-quality public beaches, citing design excellence and community engagement as central to the project’s mandate.
What Comes Next
Dubai Municipality has confirmed plans to offer leasing and investment opportunities at the destination, opening the door for operators, entrepreneurs, and businesses to participate. The wider development portfolio also includes future upgrades at Jumeirah 1, Jumeirah 2, Umm Suqeim 1 and 2, and Jebel Ali Beach.
Phase 2 at Al Mamzar Corniche is the next milestone, and it is expected to push the annual visitor count to 7 million once complete.
Khor Al Mamzar Beach is open to the public now, and it is already one of the most complete beachfront destinations in Dubai. A floating walkway, a 24/7 night swim zone, water sports, padel courts, cycling tracks, and full accessibility for People of Determination, all in Phase 1. Phase 2 is still in the works, and if this is what the first phase looks like, the next one will be worth watching closely.
