Dubai’s hotels just leveled up big time. The city has rolled out a citywide biometric contactless check-in system, meaning you can now skip the front desk, swipe your ID once, and get straight to your room like a VIP.
The initiative, launched under the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, was announced by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai. It’s part of the emirate’s push to be the world’s most futuristic, hassle-free destination for business and leisure travelers.
Guests upload their ID and biometric data one time through their mobile phones. After that, every future stay is basically face-recognition only—goodbye, long check-in lines. Data stays valid until your ID expires, so returning visitors get an even faster experience.
This isn’t just convenience—it’s strategic tourism growth. Dubai already sees repeat visitors making up nearly a quarter of arrivals, and this tech is designed to make coming back smoother than ever.
DET Director General Helal Saeed Almarri explained, “This citywide contactless check-in shows how Dubai is leading the way in hospitality innovation. Hotels, holiday homes, and even other travel services like car rentals can integrate this tech into their apps, creating a fully smart visitor experience.”
The new system joins Dubai’s roster of futuristic tech, including smart tunnels at Dubai International Airport, which have cut passport control times to mere seconds.
With 820 hotels and apartments hosting international travelers, Dubai’s hospitality sector is already a global leader. In the first ten months of 2025, the city welcomed 15.7 million overnight visitors, who spent 36.7 million room nights—and now, checking in is faster, sleeker, and totally contactless.
