The park reopened on May 21, 2026, inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah. The redesign was conceived by international artist collective SUPERFLEX, working closely with Schul Landscape Architects from Copenhagen and KWY.studio from Lisbon. The team went directly to local Sharjah residents and asked them to share everyday objects that held personal significance, whether tied to their lives in the emirate or memories of their homelands.
Ten of those objects, spanning categories like games, technology, food, and nature, were recast as large-scale sculptures installed throughout the park. These are not purely decorative pieces. They are designed for interaction, encouraging visitors to look at familiar things from a completely new perspective. The pathways are laid out with surfaces that rise and fall, referencing the natural desert landscape surrounding the city, and outlines of historic courtyards and houses from the heritage district are woven into the layout of the park’s different zones.
What Is Inside Al Majarrah Park Sharjah
The facilities cover a wide range. For families with kids, there are mist zones, interactive water fountains, trampolines, and climbing areas spread throughout the grounds. Sports facilities include a running track, climbing nets, football courts, basketball courts, and a dedicated skating area.
Wide open green spaces and picnic areas make it easy to spend a full afternoon without a single dirham spent. The 10 large-scale sculptures are scattered throughout, so the art is part of the walk itself, not a separate section to seek out.

Activities and Programmes at the Park
The official reopening on May 21 came with a full evening programme running from 7:30pm to 10pm. Visitors could join Stroll and Sketch, a self-guided walking tour encouraging guests to observe and draw the plants, pathways, and sculptural elements they spotted around the park.
For visitors aged 15 and above, Uncover Al Majarrah Park: Scavenger Hunt challenged participants to follow clues related to architecture, sculpture, and materials, leading them to distinctive spots in and around the park. Families with children aged three to five had a dedicated hands-on activity area called Art Adventure: Early Learning Station, run for parents and caregivers alongside their little ones.
These programmes are managed through Sharjah Art Foundation and will continue on a regular basis.
The Organisation Behind the Project
Al Majarrah Park is a project of Sharjah Art Foundation, the emirate’s flagship cultural institution. The development was made possible with the support of Sharjah Municipality and the Sharjah Department of Public Works. The park now sits alongside a permanent public art portfolio in Sharjah that includes Random International’s Rain Room, opened in Al Majarrah in 2018, Gary Simmons’ Across the Chalk Line, reopened in Al Mureijah Square in 2023, and Kerry James Marshall’s Untitled: Excavation from 2022.
