The UAE Golden Visa offers 10-year residency without employer sponsorship and is now open to a wider range of applicants than ever before. Here is a full breakdown of every category, the requirements, and the benefits that come with it.

What Is the UAE Golden Visa

The UAE Golden Visa is a long-term residency permit valid for 10 years. It is not tied to any employer, does not require a national sponsor, and allows holders to live, work, and study in the UAE with full mainland business ownership rights.
When it launched, it was reserved for exceptional contributors to the country. Today it covers a significantly broader range of professionals, investors, students, and creatives.

The Six Main Categories in Dubai

1. Investors

Property investors can qualify with a purchase of Dh2 million or more, whether the property is off-plan, completed, or mortgaged. No minimum down payment is required. The same threshold applies to deposits in a company’s capital, business partnerships, or for individuals whose businesses pay at least Dh250,000 in annual tax. Several UAE banks including ADCB, FAB, and RAKBank also offer Golden Visa incentives for deposits of Dh2 million. Cryptocurrency investors do not qualify.

2. Entrepreneurs

Entrepreneurs can qualify by meeting one of four conditions: being nominated by the Dubai Future Foundation, having a registered pioneering project with an annual income of Dh1 million, having a project established through a business incubator with an income of Dh2 million, or having sold a pioneering project for no less than Dh7 million. The residency period is 10 years provided conditions continue to be met.

3. Talented Geniuses

Exceptional talents in culture, art, sports, digital technology, and related vital fields can apply regardless of their educational qualification, employment status, or salary. Criteria include receiving a recognised international or regional award, being nominated for one, or holding an honorary position in a recognised global or regional entity. Distinguished practitioners need at least five years of professional experience and published creative works recognised by critics or media within the last three years. Athletes require initial approval from a nominating authority.

4. Scientists and Researchers

Scientists and researchers with high achievements can apply through recommendations from relevant authorities including the Emirates Scientists Council, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, or Ministry of Industry depending on their field. Skilled professionals in specialist fields also qualify with a valid employment contract, a minimum monthly salary of Dh30,000, and relevant academic and professional credentials.

5. Outstanding Students and Graduates

High-achieving secondary school students with at least 95 percent in their final exams qualify, along with their families. University students at UAE-accredited institutions need a minimum GPA of 3.8. Graduates from the top 100 universities worldwide with a GPA of 3.5 or above are also eligible.

6. Humanitarian Pioneers

Those with at least five years of service in international or regional organisations, outstanding humanitarian volunteers with 500 or more hours of service, individuals who have funded humanitarian work to the value of Dh2 million, or those nominated by a minister as a humanitarian pioneer can all qualify. A recommendation from the Ministry of Community Empowerment is required in Dubai.

Benefits of the UAE Golden Visa

The Golden Visa comes with a distinct set of advantages beyond standard UAE residency.
Holders receive a 10-year renewable residency that does not need to be tied to employment. They can work for themselves or any company without individual sponsorship. They can sponsor their spouse, children of any age, and an unlimited number of domestic helpers. If the main visa holder passes away, family members can remain on the visa until it expires naturally. Holders can also spend extended periods outside the UAE without the visa becoming invalid, unlike the standard residency which lapses after six months abroad.
